As thousands of college students return to their universities this fall, there is a real risk that college campuses will become hotspots for COVID-19. Already, schools like the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Notre Dame have experienced large outbreaks after only a few weeks of in-person classes due to large gatherings and parties. On top of these concerns, there has been a significant amount of misinformation related to how masks are actually intended to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which has lead to many misconceptions and contradictory mask wearing practices that render face coverings virtually ineffective and give many a false sense of security. Our goal was to create a site that would help parents become as informed as possible about all the different types of masks, how they are intended to limit virus spread, and the availability of standard-grade NIOSH-certified N95 respirator masks. If college students aren’t fully aware of the risks of being irresponsible, their actions may pose a serious threat to the health of many and to the ability of the country to recover from the pandemic altogether.
